  A Community Response for Homeless Families    

Congregations

JoCoIHN has partnered with 35 congregations and groups to serve homeless families in our community. Congregations may participate in our Network in the following ways:

Host congregations provide overnight accommodations and meals for homeless families (up to 14 people in 4 or 5 families) for one week at a time every three or four months. 

Host congregations utilize volunteers to set up the hosting area, prepare meals for guests, provide supplies for the host week, plan activities for the guests, and serve as hosts during mealtimes, evening activities and overnight shifts. Each congregation has a primary coordinator who works with the Executive Director to coordinate the congregation's IHN program. JoCoIHN provides training for all of the congregation's volunteers.

To serve as a host congregation, the congregation must be able to provide a separate sleeping area for each family. A dining area, a lounge and restrooms are also needed. These facilities must have adequate exits and a smoke alarm system.

Support congregations and groups partner with host congregations to provide volunteers and help with meals, as mutually agreed.
